Geochemistry Databases

DIG Database is a collection of public and licensed proprietary oil, gas, rock and water data analyzed using a full array geochemical evaluation techniques. These data provide the framework for exploration success in energy development. Prudent oil and gas companies will conduct a full array of geologic evaluations to mitigate the risk of drilling an underperforming horizontal.
  • The most important evaluation conducted by exploration geologists is Petroleum Systems Analysis. Four main components must be evaluated and the presence of these components may determine success or failure. Four essential components are: effective source rock, effective reservoir rock, trap and seal.
    • In conventional systems, we describe migration, timing and accumulation factors and the system can get very complicated as these variables increase in complexity.
    • In some unconventional systems, like fractured shale, the petroleum system may be fully described by concentrating the evaluation on a specific shale interval. Effective source rock, effective reservoir rock, trap and seal can be encompassed within the same shale interval.
    • Chance of success in these systems can be quantified by concentrating a significant portion of the evaluation on the geochemical characteristics of a particular shale interval.
